CyberSplash Media Global :: Perubahan Provider dari Cogent ke Xeex oleh Datacenter

Seperti yang telah terjadi 2 hari lalu, semua server yang berada dalam Datacenter Dallas, Texas mengalami downtime sekitar 3 jam 18 menit. Hal ini karena datacenter melakukan perubahan server kami dari yang menggunakan koneksi Cogent ke Xeex. Semula perubahan ini sudah diantisipasi tidak akan mengalami downtime dan memang berhasil dengan baik tanpa downtime. Permasalahan kemudian timbul saat salah satu carrier (transport provider melalui jaringan fiber mereka untuk sampai ke Xeex) yang dipakai oleh DC yaitu Qwest melakukan maintenance beberapa jam setelah perubahan ini dan harus memutus salah satu kabel fiber untuk menambah kapasitas backbonenya. Network Failover yang disiapkan oleh DC tidak bekerja dengan baik sehingga semua server kami yang berada di Dallas, Texas mengalami downtime.

Selama waktu downtime ini, teknisi Qwest dan Datacenter telah bekerja dengan maksimal dan akhirnya semua server kami bisa segera online setelah mengalami downtime selama 3 jam 18 menit. Seting Network Failover juga sudah dibetulkan oleh DC dan sudah berjalan dengan baik, terbukti saat Qwest harus melakukan maintenance selama 1 jam kemarin pukul 17.00 WIB semua server kami tidak ada yang down karena secara otomatis saat koneksi di Qwest mengalami lost akan dialihkan ke carrier lain dan setelah koneksi di Qwest berjalan dengan baik maka akan kembali lagi menggunakan Qwest.

Monday 10/06

Qwest sent us a notification at 10:21pm that there will be a maintenance which require them to cut the fiber so they can add more capacity to their backbone. At this time, it is such a short notice to inform our customer. I was not aware about this before. However, our network is setup so that if there is a fiber cut somewhere, the route will traverse to the alternate path through a different fiber transport. Unfortunately, the failover did not happen, which cause our network to go down. At this time, all hands are on deck and we did our best to get the router to work properly. Apparently, after 2 hours the connection was restored and we have changed our configuration. Since the network was back up, we stop configuring our router.

Tuesday 10/07

The Qwest fiber went down again at about 01:00am and we realized that the failover was still not working. So, we ended up trying to debug the issue. We found out that one of our routers had a bad module and was faulty after we tried to reboot them. So, I replaced the supervisor and by that time, everything is working again.

We received another notification from Qwest that they saw some impurities in the signal and they had to do the maintenance again from 11pm - 6am. At 8pm, we have fixed the failover and is ready for the maintenance. During this maintenance, the failover works wonderfully and routed the traffic to other fiber.

Wednesday 10/08

Qwest has told us the maintenance has been completed at 6:04am this morning. We do not anticipate any other maintenance. We will notify you ahead of time should there be any maintenance that might disrupt our service.

Dengan adanya kejadian ini, kami mohon maaf kepada semua pelanggan kami yang mengalami downtime ini. Kami akan terus berusaha memberikan pelayanan yang terbaik.

Berikut adalah gambar jaringan provider yang dipakai oleh datacenter bagi server-server kami. Xeex merupakan provider yang lebih baik daripada Cogent dan merupakan content delivery network bagi Akamai.
